What each view range means on TikTok

Under 200, 200 to 1,000, 1,000 to 10,000 or over 10,000 views: what each range usually tells you about your account and content, and what to do next.

These platforms are smarter than most people realize. A carefully built algorithm is always deciding what to show and who to show it to. Thankfully, we’ve learned how to read its signals, at least on TikTok, so you don’t have to.

Here’s what each view range usually means on TikTok, and what to do if you’re in one of them.

Getting less than 200 views?

If you’re consistently getting less than 200 views, it often means your account has been flagged, what people usually call being shadowbanned.

For one reason or another, TikTok has flagged your account for suspicious or bot-like behavior. Keep posting, but also spend at least 10 to 20 minutes a day scrolling through your niche hashtags and your For You page, and act like a normal user.

What do we mean by acting like a normal user?

Do what any normal person would do:

  • Watch some videos all the way through
  • Scroll past the ones you don’t like
  • Like videos you find entertaining
  • Save videos that really hit the spot
  • Leave the occasional comment or follow someone

Avoid:

  • Liking every video instantly
  • Copying and pasting the same comment onto multiple videos
  • Flicking through your For You page as fast as you can

After a few days to a week of this, TikTok will typically unflag your account.

Keep posting through this period, even if the videos don’t get much traction. Keep them simple, and keep going. It helps build trust with the algorithm.

Getting between 200 and 1,000 views?

Congratulations, you aren’t shadowbanned. Unfortunately, the content needs some work.

In this range, people are usually watching for a couple of seconds, but they aren’t watching to the end and/or aren’t engaging enough.

Keep tweaking and improving. Scroll through your niche hashtags and your For You page to find strong examples you can learn from and adapt.

Getting between 1,000 and 10,000 views?

This is a good spot to be in.

The content is pretty good. People are watching and engaging with it. The only issue?

They aren’t engaging with it enough.

Comments and shares usually matter more to the algorithm than likes. Shares most of all. If you can get people to share your video, you’re in great shape.

In this range, keep the content fairly consistent, and start finding ways to get people to comment.

Even simple prompts like “comment what I should do next” or “share this with someone who would fall for this” can help.

Getting over 10,000 views?

You’re in a great spot. Stick with whatever you’re doing, and only make small tweaks (the song, the font of the text and so on).

This is usually when an account is on the verge of going viral. All you need is for one of these videos to reach the right audience at the right time. There’s nothing more to do than stay consistent.

If you aren’t already posting once a day, this is the point to start, so you give yourself the best chance with the algorithm.
